Technical Data of the NSU Kettenkrad
The Kettenkrad was designed as a small tractor (prime mover) to tow a trailer or a small gun (20 mm AA or 3,7 cm AT).
It carries a crew of three soldiers. The driver and two passengers. The passengers are facing backwards.

The Kettenkrad is not armo(u)red and not armed. Some versions have three riffle holders to carry the riffles of the crew.

The engine comes from the well known OPEL OLYMPIA car. NSU was a motorcycle factory and produced only one cylinder engines with up to 600 ccm, which were not powerfull enough for the Kettenkrad. To save the work and the time for the developing of an own engine, NSU took the reliable OPEL engine from the stock. The OPEL OLYMPIA car was in Wehrmacht use, too, so the mechanics in the field knew the engine.

Gearbox:

Gearbox with 3 forward gears and 1 reverse gear, plus transfer box for "Gelände" (Off-road) und "Straę#376;e" (Road). So in total there are 6 forward and 2 reverse gears.

Fuel consumption:

On the road: 16 litres/100 km (18 mpg (imperial))
Off road: 22 litres/100 km (13 mpg (imperial)) and more, depending on the terrain.

The fuel tank capacity is 2 x 21 litres. So each of the two fuel tanks can take a full jerrycan. The fuel tanks are located to the right and to the left of the driver.

produs in cam 8000 si ceva de exemplare. dupa razboi au ramas putine si au fost date la populatie.
au fost folosite la agricultura si la tras lemne din padure
sunt destul de rare in prezent

NSU fiind producatoare de motociclete si inainte de razboi, probabil cand au primit comanda de la wermacht, s-au bazat pe ce aveau in dotare.

Roata din fata era doar pt. stabilitate la viteze mari.
In conditii de off-road se demonta sa aiba o capacitate de trecere mai mare.

Parerea mea e ca pentru aderenta sporita si travresarea peste gropi de obuze, transee, etc. Plus ca ar fi reusit sa tracteze piese mai grele de artilerie

asta a fost destinata ca tractor de piese de artilerie
curbele le lua prin faptul ca ghidonul era legat de sistemul de franare a senilei, si in momentul in care se actiona ghidonul stanga/dreapta era franata senila pe partea in care se intentiona virarea. acelasi principiu ca si la tancuri atat doar ca nu putea intoarce in loc prin schimbarea sensului senilei
